Chadian President Idriss Deby was declared dead on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 with official reports stating that he was killed on the frontline against rebels in the northern part of the country.

His son, General Mahamat Kaka was immediately named interim President by a transitional council of military officers in a statement that was broadcast on state television.

Until his death, Idriss Deby was the President of Chad for 30 years.

He came into power via a rebellion in 1990 and he was recently declared the winner of a presidential election which would have given him another 6th term of office as Chad’s President.

He is one of Africa longest-ruling Presidents, who has survived a lot of coup attempts and rebellion in the past.
