The Drobonsu chief in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region has removed independent presidential aspirant, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, from his town for failing to follow traditionally laid out rules.
Cheddar, who is running for the presidency as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections, reportedly organized a campaign durbar without seeking permission from the local palace, an incident the local authorities see as disrespectful to their tradition.
A circulating video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) indicates the Chief explaining that Cheddar did not pay the customary courtesy call on the palace before conducting his campaign activities in the town.
According to the Chief, it is essential for anyone, especially politicians, to acknowledge the local authorities before using the land for any activity.
The Chief emphasized how important it is for recognizing traditional authority in such matters, emphasizing that political campaigns in the region mostly begin with a visit to the palace for blessings and permission. Bediako’s failure to adhere to this practice led to his dismissal from the town.
Nana Kwame Bediako, who is a businessman turned into a politician, is currently focused on his presidential campaign, with a goal to revive dormant industrial sectors across Ghana’s 16 regions.
His platform is used to re-engage the youth of his country and for revitalizing the regions that have seen little or no development, aiming to create economic growth and employment opportunities
Cheddar has been actively involved in traveling across the country to share his message with the electorates, hoping that his vision for industrialization and regional development will be bought by the people and give him the support he needed to become Ghana’s first independent president.
As election day approaches, Bediako’s campaign remains centered on transforming Ghana’s economy through innovation and development in neglected areas
