Speaking at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Judicial Services Staff Association in Cape Coast on September 21, 2024, she condemned the forging of fake divorce documents and fraudulent letters of administration, which have led to the depletion of deceased individuals’ accounts. These crimes, committed by judicial service staff, undermine the integrity of the justice system.
*Corruption in the Judiciary*
Justice Sackey Torkornoo emphasized the need for moral principles to guide the work of judicial staff. She lamented the administration of corruption among court staff, particularly in handling land-related documents. This corruption erodes public trust and compromises the rule of law.
*Call to Action*
The Chief Justice urged the Association to:
– _Uphold Moral Principles_: Adhere to the highest ethical standards in their work.
– _Combat Corruption_: Reject bribery and other forms of corruption.
– _Collaborate Effectively_: Work together to ensure justice is served.
She reminded staff to adhere to the 1992 Constitution, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law.
*Restoring Public Trust*
To address these concerns, Justice Sackey Torkornoo has vowed to bring change to the Judicial Service, tackling the tag of corruption, ineptitude, and inefficiency. The Judiciary remains committed to discharging its duties impartially, inspiring confidence in the justice system
*The Way Forward*
The Chief Justice’s call to action is clear. Judicial staff must prioritize integrity, transparency, and accountability. By doing so, they will restore public trust and ensure the justice system serves its purpose – to deliver justice to the public.
