The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is demonstrating how resilient the party is after the unexpected passing of its founder and presidential candidate, Akua Donkor, on October 29.
As the country prepares for the December 7 elections, the GFP has swiftly appointed a new presidential candidate, confirming their commitment to continuing Akua Donkor’s legacy and vision.
In a recent press conference in the Ashanti Region on 1st November , party leaders addressed members and supporters, stating their determination to uphold the party’s mission. Patrick Tetteh, the parliamentary candidate for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, announced that the party’s executive council had reached a consensus on both the new presidential candidate and a running mate, chosen to embody the values and aspirations of the GFP.
In light of Donkor’s passing, the Electoral Commission (EC) has temporarily paused the printing of presidential ballots, providing the GFP with a 10-day ultimatum to nominate a replacement candidate.
The party is expected to formally notify the EC of Donkor’s death and request guidance on the necessary steps to update the ballot.
Akua Donkor was a recognized figure in Ghanaian politics, championing the rights of farmers and women in the country.
Her contributions have garnered widespread recognition and tributes from across the political spectrum, highlighting her impact on the nation’s political landscape.
As the GFP prepares for the upcoming elections, it aims to honor Donkor’s legacy by remaining upright in its mission to serve the Ghanaian people.
