Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against holding on to power if they lose the 2024 general elections, warning that Ghanaians’ anger will erupt aggressively if such a situation arises. Speaking on Monday, September 18, Mahama stated, “Let us win this election, and the nincompoop says he will not hand over power, it is then that you will see the anger of Ghanaians.”
This statement follows similar sentiments from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, who emphasized that President Akufo-Addo must hand over power to the duly elected government, asserting that the president’s wish to hand over to an NPP government is “an empty boast.”
President Akufo-Addo has countered by expressing his confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urging voters to support him to continue the NPP’s work, declaring, “I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice.”
