Ghanaian actor Clement Bonney, widely known as Mr. Beautiful, has opened up about his decision to take an eight-year break from social media. The outspoken supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the hiatus was a result of harsh criticism and insults he faced after publicly endorsing former President John Mahama.
Mr. Beautiful, who predicted Mahama’s win in the 2016 elections, faced backlash when the results went the other way. Both fans and some of his own colleagues criticized him, leading to a flood of derogatory comments on his social media pages.

In an interview with Merqury Quaye, the “Ama Ghana” actor shared, “For eight years I was off social media because people just came there to insult me, just because of my affiliation to John Mahama and my declaration of the 2016 election.”
Since rejoining social media, Mr. Beautiful has noticed a shift in tone, with some fans sending him uplifting messages and even apologies. He recounted one such apology from a young woman from Takoradi, who admitted that her dislike for him stemmed from his political stance. She asked him to seek forgiveness from Allah on her behalf for insulting him.
Mr. Beautiful is currently on a radio tour promoting his new song, “The Gamechanger,” which supports the NDC presidential candidate and explains the 24-hour economy policy.
