The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is working assiduously to get Joana Gyan Cudjoe recognized as their candidate for the Amenfi Central parliamentary seat in the upcoming December 7 elections.
They have taken their case to the Sekondi High Court, hoping to overturn an earlier decision that stops her from being on the ballot.
This follows a previous setback when the Accra High Court dismissed their effort to pause the printing of election materials relating to Cudjoe’s candidacy.
Dr. Rashid Tanko, who is the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, has confirmed that the party is determined to fight the injunction that affects Cudjoe.
The NDC is strongly opposing the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify her, calling it undemocratic and unconstitutional.
The issue began when the May 2023 parliamentary primaries of the NDC, where Juliana Cudjoe won, were annulled, leading to a lawsuit and an injunction against her.
Even though she also won in the September 2024 primaries, the Electoral Commission still upheld her disqualification due to the earlier injunction.
The NDC believes that the results of the September primaries should take precedence over the May elections and are insisting that Cudjoe’s name be put back on the ballot.
They have made it clear that they will only accept the election results if she is not allowed to run.
In their latest legal move, the NDC is asking the Sekondi High Court to lift the injunction against Cudjoe, ensuring she can compete in the December elections.
The party is committed to seeking justice and making sure that the voters’ democratic choice is honored in the upcoming elections.
