The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its strong opposition to any attempts to prevent Ghanaians living in Togo from participating in the upcoming general elections. NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has warned against any form of discrimination that could stop voters crossing into Ghana via land to cast their ballots.
Speaking at a rally in Ziope, a border town in the Agotime Ziope Constituency, Nketia questioned the intentions behind the ROPAL law passed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He pointed out the inconsistency, saying, “If you are a Ghanaian living in America and you fly into Kotoka International Airport, you can vote, but if you live in Togo and want to vote in your hometown, you’re considered a foreigner. We won’t accept this discrimination.”

Nketia urged supporters in the constituency, a traditional NDC stronghold, to stay vigilant, warning that the NPP may attempt to suppress votes by preventing people from crossing the border to vote. He emphasized the importance of defending their right to participate in the elections, stating, “The NPP will find every reason to stop you and your relatives in Togo from voting in your own country.”
Calling for unity, Nketia encouraged voters to support the NDC in the upcoming elections, linking the constituency’s struggles to the NPP’s governance. He urged them to choose change, saying, “You suffer most when the NPP is in power, so if you want to continue under that suffering, it’s up to you.”
The NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Agotime Ziope, Charles Agbeve, also urged voters to turn out in large numbers on December 7, 2024, to help the party reach its goal of securing 25,000 votes in the constituency.
