NSS Personnel To Be Paid All Arrears Starting From Today

In a significant move to address the financial concerns of National Service personnel, Felix Gyamfi, the Acting Director of the Ghana National Service Authority, has announced that all outstanding allowances will be fully paid starting tomorrow. This directive, given by President John Mahama, has brought a wave of relief among service members who have been struggling due to delayed payments.

During an interview on Joy FM’s PM Express on February 12, Gyamfi lauded President Mahama for his swift action. He highlighted that the President has always been attentive to the payment issues faced by service personnel, even prior to his presidency. “We should be grateful to President John Mahama,” Gyamfi emphasized. “He was concerned about the delays in service personnel payments even before taking office. Given the serious inflation and the meagre service allowance of ¢715, his immediate response once we presented the figures to him is commendable.”

Gyamfi confirmed that the delayed payments from August through December would be disbursed promptly, offering much-needed financial relief to thousands of service personnel. “Starting tomorrow, service personnel will begin receiving all arrears due from August to December,” he assured.

Addressing the root causes of the recurring payment delays, Gyamfi pointed to systemic corruption and incompetence as significant factors. “In the last eight years, we’ve dealt with massive corruption and incompetence, which have unjustly withheld service personnel’s meagre allowances,” he lamented.

On the topic of increasing the current allowance, Gyamfi hinted at President Mahama’s ongoing efforts to improve conditions for service personnel. “President Mahama is aware of our circumstances and has already reduced corruption and theft. He’s likely considering ways to allocate some of the saved funds back to service personnel,” he revealed.

The commitment to immediate payments has undoubtedly eased the financial strain on National Service personnel, with the government’s renewed focus on efficiency and anti-corruption promising a more reliable payment system in the future.
