Olam Agri, a global leader in the food and agribusiness sector, has officially launched the construction of a cutting-edge pasta production facility at its wheat milling factory in Kpone, near Tema, Greater Accra Region.
The groundbreaking event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, and the Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Frederick Obeng Adom. Traditional leaders from Kpone municipality, along with executives from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC), the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, and various other stakeholders such as the Ghana Police Service, National Fire Service, and Ghana Water Company, were also present.
The establishment of this facility marks a significant step in Olam Agri’s mission to provide high-quality, affordable, and nutritious pasta products to the Ghanaian market. Once completed, it will be the first pasta production facility in Ghana, designed to enhance product quality and ensure local availability.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. K.T. Hammond, the Deputy Minister highlighted the growing demand for pasta in Ghana, noting the heavy reliance on imports from countries like Turkey, Italy, China, and South Africa. He expressed satisfaction with Olam Agri’s initiative to capitalize on this opportunity, describing it as a vital contribution to Ghana’s import substitution and job creation efforts.
“The private sector is essential in driving Ghana’s industrial growth,” Hon. Hammond remarked, adding that Olam Agri has long set the standard in agribusiness, from flour production to supporting local rice farmers. He further acknowledged the company’s reputation for quality through its popular brands like Mama Gold and Royal Feast.
Baibhav Biswas, Olam Agri’s Country Head in Ghana, expressed excitement about the new project, emphasizing the company’s 30-year commitment to infrastructure and human resource development in Ghana. He stated, “This facility demonstrates our dedication to the country and our contribution to its economic development and food security, reinforcing our strategy to strengthen our presence in Africa’s food market.”
Mr. Biswas also extended his gratitude to all stakeholders for their ongoing support, underscoring Olam Agri’s dedication to providing quality products and fostering sustainable community development in Ghana.
The Commissioner-General of the GRA, Ms. Julia Esiam, commended Olam Agri and reaffirmed the GRA’s support through partnerships. “The groundbreaking of this facility paves the way for new opportunities in growth, innovation, and progress,” she said.
