Democracy Hub convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor has firmly rejected accusations from the Ghana Police Service that he is in hiding and has been declared wanted. Labeling the claims as “baseless and misleading,” Barker-Vormawor clarified that he has been in regular contact with senior police officers, keeping them informed of his whereabouts and availability.
The activist’s response follows a police announcement of a manhunt for him and others after the arrest of several protesters on Sunday, September 22, during a Democracy Hub demonstration. In a statement, the police alleged that Barker-Vormawor was evading arrest, a charge he vehemently denied in a Facebook post, stating he has made no effort to avoid law enforcement.
Barker-Vormawor also criticized the police narrative, emphasizing his ongoing cooperation with authorities and dismissing the need for a manhunt.
“In response to these developments, I have instructed my lawyers to engage with the Ghana Police Service to clarify which specific police station or office they want me to report to. My legal team is prepared to cooperate and will be in contact with the relevant authorities to determine the next steps,” he stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and expressed his readiness to address any concerns raised by the police in accordance with due process, hoping for clarity to prevent any further misrepresentation of the facts.
