UK-based Ghanaian gospel star Sonnie Badu has opened up about the lack of support he received from fellow gospel musicians during one of the most difficult moments of his life. After suffering a serious injury in 2023, the “My Confidence” hitmaker shared that no one from the gospel community checked in on him while he was on his sickbed.
In an emotional interview on Joy Prime’s Changes with Roselyn Felli, Sonnie Badu expressed his disappointment at the cold response from his colleagues. “Not even a single one checked up on me. Personally, if I heard that somebody had gone through something, I would have been calling, but not even one person did,” he revealed.
Realizing that no one cared about his well-being, Badu found the strength within himself to persevere and complete his ongoing projects. “When I saw that not a single gospel artist or pastor reached out, I said to myself, ‘Even if I die, no one cares. I have to rise up quickly.’”

Despite the silence from his colleagues, Badu acknowledged a few pastors who did show him support, including Nigeria’s Pastor Jerry Eze, Prophet Agyemang Prempeh, Apostle Amoako Atta, and Pastor Kingsley, who reached out via social media.
The gospel sensation was further inspired by the neglect to push forward with his Rhythms of Africa concert in December, even though his injury worsened on the day of the event. Determined, he performed through the pain, giving his best at the concert.
Grateful for God’s healing grace, Badu reflected on how the injury could have been fatal but ultimately spared his life. Responding to social media trolls who accused him of faking the injury for publicity, he brushed off the comments, saying, “Ghanaians need to see to believe, and I’m going to show them what I went through. It’s ugly.”
