State Holds Vigil in honour of late Jerry John Rawlings.


A vigil is currently underway at the Air Force Officers Mess in Accra in honour of late Jerry John Rawlings. This is part of the 4-day programme line up to commence the beginning of the state funeral for the former President.

It is expected to be attended by his wife, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, and her four children. Other dignitaries who are expected to attend are the President and his vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and their wives.

Also in attendance will be the Cheif of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Obed Akwa, service commanders, retired and serving officers and men of the Ghana armed forces, members of the diplomatic missions, government officials and other dignitaries, friends and loved ones.

Earlier Sunday, January 24, a Catholic Requiem mass was held for the statesman at the Holy Spirit Cathedral as part of four-day funeral rites.

Meanwhile, preparations are currently underway for the laying in state and filling past the body at the Accra International Conference Centre which begins tomorrow.
