Unmasking the Ghost Names: NSA Director-General Vows Reform

Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has laid blame on previous leadership for the recent ghost names scandal that has plagued the authority. During a recent press conference, Gyamfi revealed that over 81,885 suspected ghost names were discovered on the NSA payroll following a headcount initiated by the Minister for Finance.

Leadership Failures and Accountability

Gyamfi didn’t mince words when addressing the issue, stating, “This was a leadership problem. The checks that were supposed to save taxpayers’ money did not kick in.” He condemned the previous management for failing to implement necessary policies to prevent such fraudulent activities.

Condemnation of Corruption

Gyamfi expressed his dismay at the corruption within state entities, questioning how leaders could engage in such acts. “It’s just so sad that the people who were supposed to make sure that we benefit from engaging service persons around the country are the very persons who failed us,” he lamented.

A Commitment to Reform

The Director-General assured Ghanaians that under his leadership, such a scandal would not recur. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring a clean payroll, stating, “I can assure you that in my tenure as the Director-General of National Service, Ghanaians can take my word for it, there will be no way that ghosts will find their names on the payroll of National Service. I will take responsibility for any infraction on the payroll of the national service.”

Investigations and Reforms

The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has been tasked with uncovering how these fraudulent entries were created under the previous NPP administration. President Mahama has directed the new leadership of the Authority to implement urgent reforms to prevent a recurrence of such fraudulent activities. He emphasized the need for stronger controls and accountability mechanisms to safeguard public funds.

Looking Forward

With a focus on transparency and accountability, stakeholders are hopeful that the new leadership will bring about the necessary changes to prevent such incidents in the future. As reforms are put in place, Ghanaians can look forward to a more efficient and corruption-free National Service Authority. Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of these reforms and their impact on the NSA.
