The Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin stated that some of the members of Parliament who have tested positive for coronavirus, have been asked to stay home and observe the protocols.
There has been a call recently to relieve the members of parliament of their duties for a while following the outbreak of Covid 19 in parliament.
Dr. Rashid Dramani, the Executive Director of the African Center For Parliamentary Affairs(ACEPA),has agreed to the call.
According to Dr. Rashid, it shouldn’t be because of lawmaking that lives should be lost. He added that the lives of the MP’s are equally important and there is the need to preserve it by all means.
However,Dr. Rashid said that they want to save the lives of all the 275 MP’s.
“All this that we are saying is because, at the end of the day, we want to have all our 275 MPs. We don’t want any political crisis”, he added.
He stated that any business of the government at the moment can wait in these times of emergencies and pandemics.
” Let’s make sure the lives of our lawmakers and families are safe,”he said.
