“We warned him to stop criticizing the government harshly but he won’t stop” – Angel FM.
Finally, the General Manager of Angel FM, Mr. Kwadwo Dickson has opened up on the reasons why the station took the decision to eventually suspend Captain Smart, one of their star journalist and anchor.
Explaining live on Angel TV following news of Captain Smart’s suspension, he said it was necessitated by his continuous critiquing of the government and its functionaries.
Kwadwo Dickson said the station took the best decision to let him go off the microphone for a while to cool down the temperature.
According to him, the CEO of the Angel Broadcasting Network together with other managers of the station warned him to tread carefully as far as critiquing the government was concerned.
He added that they (management) spoke to Captain Smart to refrain from launching virtual attacks on key members of the government like the President, the Vice President and other key functionaries of the NPP party.
But despite all these cautions and advice, Captain Smart did not listen and continued to lambast and berate the government and attack the personality of government appointees which is why they were eventually forced to ask him to stay off the station’s hot seat for a while.
It will be recalled that Franklin Cudjoe, a close associate of the firebrand radio broadcaster was the first person to post on his facebook page; it went viral in a matter of a few hours causing lots of tongues wagging on social media.
He let the cat out of the bag about the suspension of Captain Smart because of pressure being mounted on the station from the powers that be to get him to stop bashing government and its functionaries.
The station’s management had no choice but to have Captain Smart suspended from duty until further notice.
A section of Ghanaians on social media have been commenting on the development since the story broke yesterday.
Many are beginning to believe that the Akufo-Addo led government is gradually confirming the “culture of silence” allegations which have been tagged to it in recent times.
